Hot off his new adaptation of “Rebecca” hitting Netflix this week, filmmaker Ben Wheatley has signed on to direct the sequel to 2018 giant prehistoric shark thriller “The Meg” at Warner Bros. Pictures.
Much of the first film’s key crew, including star Jason Statham, are expected to return with Jon and Erich Hoeber penning the most recent draft working off an initial one by Dean Georgaris (all three worked on the first). Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Belle Avery are returning as producers.
Statham starred in the first film as a shark expert who has to help rescue people, including his ex-wife, trapped in an underwater research station under attack by the megashark. Jon Turteltaub (“National Treasure”) helmed the film which raked in $530.3 million globally.
