One of the least liked elements of David Ayer’s “Suicide Squad” film was Oscar-winner Jared Leto’s take on The Joker. From the tattoos and grills, to the frat boy shenanigans, Leto certainly was committed to the part even if the role felt strangely edited into the story.
One scene that has stuck with people though is a scene where The Joker is lying on a floor laughing maniacally while he’s surrounded by a circle of weapons and baby clothes.
This week, a fan asked director David Ayer whether the clothes were meant to indicate that The Joker and Harley Quinn killed some babies before the scene, but Ayer responded on Twitter, saying it’s nothing so sinister and it ties into her Enchantress fantasy from later in the film:
“No it’s more innocent. Harley wanted a normal family with Joker hence the baby in her vision. I figured she would have endlessly pestered Mr. J about having a kid. So he had Mr. Frost buy some onesies. The circle represents how he sees Harley.”
It has been made fairly clear in the past that many of Leto’s scenes were left on the cutting room floor, so many are understandably curious as to what was missed.
As the “Birds of Prey” film sees the end of the character’s relationship with The Joker, it’s not expected to come up again in James Gunn’s “The Suicide Squad” film which has already been shot and is currently awaiting post-production.
