Apple Original Films has acquired the international rights to the animated short film “The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse” with plans to release it on its Apple TV+ service on Christmas Day. The BBC will premiere the film on BBC One in the U.K.
Based on Charlie Mackesy’s international bestseller, the story follows the unlikely friendship of a boy, a mole (Tom Hollander), a fox (Idris Elba) and a horse (Gabriel Byrne) traveling together in the boy’s search for home.
The project, back by J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot, boasts a raft of talent including executive producers Abrams, Jony Ive, Hannah Minghella and Woody Harrelson; composer Isobel Waller-Bridge; and screenwriter Jon Croker. Cara Speller and Matthew Freud also produce.
