Amazon Cancels Dark Tower Series Plans

Amazon Studios has officially cancelled its planned pilot for a “The Dark Tower” TV series. The new series was designed to be independent from the 2017 film adaptation starring Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey which was a critical and commercial failure.

Executive producer/showrunner Glen Mazzara (“The Walking Dead”) and production company MRC are reportedly now shopping around the two original scripts that were the basis for the pilot pickup.

The Amazon version had former British soap star Sam Strike as a young Roland Deschain and would show how he got his guns, his first conflict with the man in black (Jasper Paakkonen), his first love and his first mission as a gunslinger. Michael Rooker, Jerome Flynn and Joana Ribeiro also reportedly starred.

Amazon produced the pilot but reportedly were not happy with it, saying it was not on the level of other large-scale elevated genre series also in the works at the streamer including the “Wheel Of Time” and “The Lord Of the Rings” shows.
