A John McCain Biopic Is In The Works

Stampede Ventures has optioned the screen rights three books about U.S. Senator John McCain, with plans to adapt them into a feature film.

Penned by McCain’s political adviser and friend Mark Salter, the books being adapted include “The Luckiest Man,” “Faith of My Fathers” and “Worth the Fighting For”.

McCain volunteered for Vietnam duty and was shot down in 1967 during a bombing run over Hanoi. Held as a Prisoner of War, McCain was brutally tortured when he refused to be used for propaganda and declined an offer to be set free, unless his fellow POWs were also allowed to leave also.

Salter is co-writing the script with Craig Turk (“The Good Wife,” “FBI”), a man who served as chief legal counsel to McCain’s 2000 presidential campaign. McCain’s widow Cindy McCain will serve as an executive producer.
