“Penguin” Showrunner Sets “Poison Ivy” Series

HBO Max

HBO and “The Penguin” showrunner Lauren LeFranc are re-teaming to bring another Batman villain to television – Poison Ivy.

The iconic villain from the DC Comics title has undergone various looks and styles over the years, from a more straightforward ecoterrorist with an immunity to essentially all biological toxins, to a more supernatural-leaning figure who can telepathically control plant life.

The character has been seen in live-action before, played by Uma Thurman in 1997’s “Batman & Robin” film, along with small screen incarnations on “Gotham” and “Batwoman”.

She’s arguably more famous for her well-regarded animated incarnations from the original 1990s “Batman: The Animated Series” to HBO Max’s “Harley Quinn” TV series.

LeFranc’s “The Penguin” marked the first live-action spinoff from a Batman movie, with Colin Farrell reprising his role from Matt Reeves’ 2022 “The Batman” film.

The acclaimed series won Farrell an Emmy and a Golden Globe for his lead performance, along with multiple best limited series nominations.

The news comes as DC Studios releases “Clayface” this week in cinemas and has the “Superman” spin-off film “The People vs. Gorilla Grodd” in the works.
