Esther McGregor (“We Were Liars”) has been cast as Violet Sorrengail, while Emilio Sakraya (“Those About To Die”) will play Xaden Riorson in the upcoming TV series adaptation of Rebecca Yarros’ book series “Fourth Wing”.

The live-action adaptation of the mega-selling Empyrean romantasy novels, has been in development at Amazon since 2023 and has Michael B. Jordan’s Outlier Society company set to produce.

The story centers on Violet, a twenty-year-old woman whose plans for a quiet life are upended when her mother, a military general, orders her to join the brutal Basgiath War College and become one of several hundred candidates vying to become dragon riders – the elites of their kingdom of Navarre.

Moira Walley-Beckett (“Breaking Bad,” “Anne with an E”) was originally set as showrunner until a year ago when “Locke & Key” co-creator and “The Haunting of Hill House” producer Meredith Averill took over.

Averill is executive producing with Jordan, Elizabeth Raposo, Jonah Nolan, Lisa Joy, Athena Wickham, Liz Pelletier and Sherryl Clark. The project has a series order at the streamer with former “Westworld” showrunner Lisa Joy to direct the first episode of the series.

There are five books in the series with only three published so far – “Fourth Wing,” “Iron Flame” and “Onyx Storm”. That third book reportedly sold 2.7 million copies within the first week.
