Filmmakers Steven Spielberg and Michael Bay are coming back to the “Transformers” franchise.
Paramount Pictures has reportedly appointed Steven Spielberg to focus on all creative aspects of the next live-action film alongside longtime producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura.
In addition, Michael Bay is in early talks to return as director after sitting out the last two films (“Bumblebee,” “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts”). Bay helmed the original film back in 2007 and four subsequent sequels through to “Transformers: The Last Knight”.
The overall goal is to steer the franchise back to smoother waters, returning to a similar tone to the earlier “Transformers” movies, which Spielberg had more involvement with.
The franchise itself has generated more than $5.4 billion in global box office revenue and turned Hasbro’s toy brand into a massive global phenomenon.
Former franchise star Shia LaBeouf will not return, though talks regarding other casting are still in the early stages.
Di Bonaventura, Mark Vahradian, Don Murphy, Tom DeSanto and Hasbro will produce.
