J.A. Bayona Returning To “Jurassic” Franchise?

Universal Pictures

Having helmed the best-looking film of the first “Jurassic World” trilogy with “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom,” filmmaker J.A. Bayona may be coming back to the franchise.

Both The Insneider and THR’s Borys Kit report that Universal Pictures is being sought to direct the follow-up to last year’s “Jurassic World Rebirth”.

Kit says Bayona, who also helmed “The Orphanage” and “The Impossible,” is “at the top of the list” of directors the studio wants for the next instalment.

Filmmaker Gareth Edwards, who helmed ‘Rebirth’, was originally set to return but exited due to creative differences. Lee Isaac Chung (“Twisters”) was also linked at one point.

Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey and Mahershala Ali are all expected to return while David Koepp is once again writing the script.

Previous reports have suggested “Jurassic World: Liberation” will be the title for the film, which is expected to shoot next year for a June 2028 release.
