Sixth “Insidious” Has Solid Box-Office Start

Sony Pictures

“Insidious: Out of the Further,” the sixth entry in Sony’s horror franchise, pulled in $3 million in previews last night at the U.S. box-office.

Estimates now have the film debuting in the $23-27 million range in second place behind Sony’s “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” which is expected to take a further $35-40 million in what will be its fourth weekend.

It’s a debut behind the fifth “Insidious” film, 2023’s “Insidious: The Red Door,” which launched to $33 million, but reviews have been notably better and the best for the franchise overall since the first film.

The new film cost just $18 million to produce so will quickly be into profit – especially as estimates suggest a global opening weekend potentially double that of the domestic one.

Meanwhile “The Odyssey” will score a further $15 million in its sixth weekend domestically.

The Jason Statham-led “Mutiny,” the subject of controversy over its leak onto Prime Video, pulled in just $500,000 in previews ahead of a domestic start expected to be around $6 million for the weekend.

The comedy “Spa Weekend” is also out and on track to open with $3-5 million.
