Worldwide box-office milestones just keep on coming for both Sony’s “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” and Universal’s “The Odyssey”.
First up, the webslinger has now surpassed $2 billion in global ticket sales after just three weekends of release. It is the second-fastest film to reach that level after “Avengers: Endgame” which did it in 11 days as opposed to Spidey’s 17 days.
Overseas numbers are in for the weekend, which have pushed the total of the film to $785 million domestically and $1.23 billion overseas.
By the end of Sunday, the film is expected to have grossed $2.022 billion, one of only eight films in history to hit that mark.
No-one seems quite clear where it will end its run, but the film could prove a serious challenger to both ‘Endgame’ and the original “Avatar”.
Meanwhile, Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey” has passed the $500 million domestic mark at $504 million. It now sits just shy of the $536 million domestic total of “The Dark Knight Rises,” Nolan’s most successful film domestically.
