“Backrooms” Extended Cut Coming To Cinemas

A24 have announced plans to get people back out to its horror hit “Backrooms” in cinemas – with an extended cut releasing this coming weekend for the July the 4th holiday.

The indie studio has announced “Backrooms: Everything Must Go Edition,” a new 126-minute cut of the film that clocks around 15 minutes longer than the theatrical version.

Exhibitor AMC describes it in a listing as having a “theatrically exclusive post-credit” with additional footage from director Kane Parsons. Specifics of what new footage will be included haven’t been revealed.

The film follows a furniture store operator (Chiwetel Ejiofor) who discovers an endless array of liminal spaces in the store’s basement. Renate Reinsve, Mark Duplass, Finn Bennett, and Lukita Maxwell co-star

The $10 million-budgeted film opened in cinemas on May 29th and has grossed more than $330 million worldwide, becoming the highest-grossing film in A24’s history.

The re-release will face off against the still going strong “Toy Story 5,” the just opened “Minions & Monsters,” and the going not so strong “Supergirl”.
