The BBC has set plans for a new major television series based on the beloved Hercule Poirot novels of Agatha Christie.
The project won’t be a film or mini-series, but an ongoing show with the Beeb reportedly making a significant commitment that could allow for up to three seasons. The first season is already targeting a late 2027 debut.
The network won the project in a highly competitive situation with other networks and streamers bidding for the project.
Mammoth Screen, which produced the 2015 “And Then There Were None” mini-series, are producing the series.
Mammoth founder Damien Timmer is familiar with the material, he wasd an executive producer on the iconic David Suchet-led ITV series “Agatha Christie’s Poirot” which ran from 1989-2013.
Benji Walters (“Noughts + Crosses”) is penning the adaptation which will begin filming in Liverpool and the north-west of England over the summer.
A major search for who will play the iconic detective is now underway.
