“Stranger Things” Finale Is Packing Cinemas

Netflix

The series finale of Netflix’s “Stranger Things” is set to be a major event in cinemas.

An Instagram post from co-creator Ross Duffer has revealed that approximately 1.1 million people have reportedly RSVP’d to watch the final episode in cinemas on New Year’s Eve.

The feature-length episode will be released on Netflix at the same time as cinema screenings begin.

Duffer also says that 3,500 showtimes across more than 620 theaters are completely sold out. He adds that he and his brother Matt Duffer, his co-creator, would be attending a screening or two in Los Angeles.

The series itself recently crossed 1.2 billion views, and has reportedly contributed more than $1.4 billion to the U.S. economy.

It also comes as the second last episode, featuring a major coming out scene of a character, has been review bombed on IMDb.

The episode has scored a 5.4/10 – the first episode in the series to drop below a 7.8 and most in the high 8’s – while the number of votes for the episode is double that of any other episode this season.

Reviews for the season have been very mixed, with a lot of criticism throughout the run over the writing and acting. Even the aforementioned coming out scene has been heavily criticised for feeling forced and mishandling a moment that had been built up to for years.
