“Crow” Reboot Producer Has Ambitious Plans

Recently came the news that Lionsgate had acquired the Rupert Sanders-directed “The Crow” reboot, the long-gestating reimagining of the 1994 cult classic that starred Brandon Lee in his last role.

Bill Skarsgard, FKA twigs, and Danny Huston star in the story that follows a man brutally murdered comes back to life as an undead avenger of his and his fiancee’s deaths.

The production went through multiple shifts in directors, writers, and stars over the years with the likes of Jason Momoa, Jack Huston and Luke Evans attached at different points to play the titular role.

Ultimately though, it was shot and completed on a $50 million budget and the film’s producer Sam Pressman, son of famed producer Edward R. Pressman, believes the reboot is strong enough it warrants an expansion into a potential shared universe in other mediums like games and animation. He tells Deadline:

“The Crow has been a very central and integral part of our company and I’m really proud of the progress and the work that has been done. I think the movie is just going to blow people away.

Our partners want to approach it in a very 360 way, whether it be video games, an animated series or a universe, but it’s got this cosmic legacy that can expand beyond a singular story.

We’re finally at a point where we can really explore those other avenues because it’s such a unique property in that it is not a studio film, it’s not a Marvel film – it’s kind of an anti-Marvel film.

I have the highest hopes for that and I really love what Molly Hassell has done in pushing it up the hill and Rupert Sanders is such a visionary.”

Zach Baylin and Will Schneider penned the script of the current iteration which finished filming last year and is currently set to be released in 2024.
