Olivia Colman, Antonio Banderas, Rachel Zegler and Emily Mortimer are all in talks to join the cast of “Paddington in Peru,” the third instalment of the critically acclaimed “Paddington” film franchise at StudioCanal.
In addition Hugh Bonneville, Julie Walters, Jim Broadbent, Madeleine Harris and Samuel Joslin will be back from the prior films, as will Ben Whishaw and Imelda Staunton as the voices of Paddington and Aunt Lucy, respectively.
THR broke the news of Colman’s involvement and indicate her character will be The Reverend Mother, a cheerful guitar-playing nun who runs a retirement home for bears in Peru.
In the films, it’s known that Paddington’s Aunt Lucy lives in said retirement home and story will follow Paddington returning home to visit her. The bear and the Brown Family embark on an unexpected journey through the Amazon rainforest and up to the mountain peaks of Peru – helped along the way by Banderas’ dashing and intrepid riverboat captain and his daughter (Zegler).
Mortimer will take over the Mrs. Brown role from Sally Hawkins who has issued a statement indicating she’s moving on but is very happy with the choice of Mortimer to succeed her.
The project marks the feature debut of award-winning commercial and music video director Dougal Wilson, stepping in for Paul King who helmed the two previous movies.
Heyday and StudioCanal are producing the feature, which will be shot on location in the UK, Peru and Colombia. StudioCanal will open the film in the UK, Australia/New Zealand and some European territories, with Sony Pictures handling everywhere else except for Russia, China and Japan.
