Comcast-owned NBCUniversal has officially terminated its next-day TV streaming deal with Hulu.
The change will reportedly go into effect with the next TV season, starting in late September, as NBCUniversal’s next-day and some library content will be kept for their own Peacock service.
That means new episodes of popular NBC shows from “Saturday Night Live” to the “Law and Order” franchise and the rest of NBCU’s broadcast and cable lineup for the 2022-23 season won’t be available on Hulu.
However some NBCU catalog content is expected to remain there for a few more years yet including titles like “30 Rock,” “Friday Night Lights” and “Will and Grace”.
In 2019, a pact between Comcast and Disney saw the latter take operational control of Hulu which Disney owns the majority share of. Under the deal, by 2022 NBCU had the right to cancel most of its content-licensing agreements with Hulu.
Comcast is expected to sell its 33% Hulu ownership stake to Disney by as early as January 2024.
