Netflix teased a new David Fincher project last week which got the “Mindhunter” fanbase excited… until it was revealed to be a visual essay doco series celebrating cinema and titled “Voir”. So, not the announcement of a third season of the acclaimed crime thriller series they were hoping for.
“Mindhunter” aired its second season in 2019, but has remained stuck in limbo ever since – Netflix announcing in January last year that a third season was on “indefinite hold” as Fincher wanted to pursue other projects.
At the time it was said he may “revisit [the series] in the future” which offered some hope – but Fincher himself has previously discussed how the series’ expense and the effort to do it were a bit too much for him.
Now though, a faint glimmer of hope shines again as Oscar winner Asif Kapadia, who directed two episodes of the first season, encouraged fans to make some noise for another season. He posted on Twitter:
“Audiences around the world need [to] let @netflix know that there is a real interest & demand for Season 3 of @MINDHUNTER. If you make enough noise, It might actually happen.”
“Mindhunter” remains one of the most acclaimed series to come from the streamer and followed FBI agents developing the behaviour science unit to investigate serial killers. Jonathan Groff, Holt McCallany and Anna Torv starred.
