Universal’s “F9: The Fast Saga” beat expectations and has pulled in a domestic opening weekend of $70 million – the highest-grossing opening weekend since December 2019, and a global gross of $405 million to date.
The numbers have shined which means the next film is inevitable – or rather the next two films as it has previously been indicated “Fast 10” will be a two-parter with “F9” laying some of the groundwork.
Star Vin Diesel has confirmed to Regal that filming on the two films will take place back-to-back starting in January and likely run through most of 2022. Co-star Tyrese Gibson back that up, telling Collider they are shooting back-to-back and they will “touch a lot of continents between the two.”
Before he shoots that, Diesel will re-team with “The Fate of the Furious” helmer F. Gary Gray for the action-comedy “Muscle” to shoot later this year. Diesel will play a fugitive who must clear his name by going on the run with a man everyone wants dead. The tone is said to be akin to “48 Hrs” and “Rush Hour”.
Diesel also appeared on “The Kelly Clarkson Show” and said he’d be up for a “Fast and Furious” musical and certainly is keen to do some sort of musical himself, while he confirmed to ET Online that singer Cardi B will reprise her “F9” cameo role in the upcoming films.
