NBC has passed on renewing its missing plane drama series “Manifest” for a fourth season. The decision came down a few hours ago, just before options on the cast expire tomorrow.
Though one of four shows on the bubble at the network, the Warner Bros. TV and Universal TV effort was the highest-rated (linear) by a wide margin. It and two of the others (“Debris,” “Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist”) have been axed with only “Good Girls” living on.
The series was sold to NBC with a six-season plan that has been mapped out – plans that will now fall through unless someone else picks it up. Warners is expected to look for a new home for the show, but there have been no formal conversations as yet.
The series premiered in 2018 and focuses on the passengers of a routine flight who touch down to discover the rest of the world has aged five years and everyone they know has moved on. As their new realities become clear, a deeper mystery unfolds and they realize they might be meant for something greater than they thought possible.
One possibility is Netflix where the series debuted last Thursday and quickly jumped to the top spot.
