Stuart To Pen Netflix’s “Assassin’s Creed”

Jeb Stuart, a writer on classic films like “Die Hard” and “The Fugitive” and co-creator of the upcoming “Vikings: Valhalla” series,” has been set to write the “Assassin’s Creed” live-action series at Netflix.

The series was announced to be in development in October as part of a deal between Netflix and Ubisoft to develop content based on their game franchise. No production or premiere date for the series has yet been set.

The game series kicked off in 2007 with over 155 million copies of the various titles selling to date. Each of the games explored the war between the rival secret orders of the Assassins and the Templars and was mostly set in a different time period – Third Crusade, Renaissance Italy, American Revolution, the Caribbean at piracy’s height, Revolutionary France, Victorian England, Ancient Egypt, Ancient Greece, Viking times, etc.

Said time periods were accessed from the present day via the Animus, a machine allowing access to genetic memories of Assassins in different periods in a race to track down powerful artifacts called Pieces of Eden.

In recent years the franchise has all but ditched the present-day scenes and much of the heavy lore in favor of settings further back in time, the results have yielded some of the best reviews and the best sales of the franchise to date.

Ubisoft Film & Television’s Jason Altman and Danielle Kreinik serve as executive producers on the new series which follows in the wake of the 2016 movie starring Michael Fassbender which critically flopped but still grossed over $240 million worldwide against a reported budget of $125 million.
