Filmmaker Jon Favreau, who helped birth the Marvel Cinematic Universe with “Iron Man” and who is helping birth the upcoming Disney+ service with “The Mandalorian,” has addressed Martin Scorsese and Francis Ford Coppola’s criticisms of Marvel movies.
Speaking with CNBC, Favreau is nothing but complementary to the two men saying: “These two guys are my heroes and they’ve earned the right to express their opinions. I wouldn’t be doing what I’m doing if they didn’t carve the way. They’ve served as a source of inspiration, you can go all the way back to ‘Swingers’ where I was referencing Marty, and I’ve worked with him. For me, they can express whatever opinion they’d like.”
Others from Marvel have weighed in recently with James Gunn offering a response to nearly every criticism thus far, while actors like Robert Downey Jr. and Sebastian Stan have also responded. Favreau serves as showrunner on “The Mandalorian” and will direct at least one episode of its currently in production second season.
