Sam Raimi’s original iconic horror classic “Evil Dead” is returning to cinemas, albeit in a whole new way.
Dubbed ‘Evil Dead: A Nightmare Reimagined’ composer Joseph LoDuca has reimagined his score for the Bruce Campbell-led feature with the new version to be included with the 4K restoration and 5.1 surround sound mix that will play in cinemas.
The new version debuted at MondoCon in Austin, Texas and Campbell has spoken about the updated score and why it was important:
“Mixing the sound for Evil Dead in the early 1980s, we were forced to shove everything into one monaural box. As a result, Joe LoDuca’s great score had to compete unfairly with Kandarian Demons, gore sound effects and lots of screaming. With this new release, Joe can finally have his dynamic composition mixed, balanced and featured properly, for perhaps the first time ever!”
You can see and hear how it all works now in a freshly released clip below. Grindhouse Releasing will be touring this version of the movie around the U.S. starting in October – a full list of cities and dates is up at their website GrindhouseReleasing.com.
That’s not the only re-release news as a 4K remaster of Stanley Kubrick‘s “The Shining” will return to cinemas on Thursday, September 26th and Tuesday, October 1st. The re-release comes ahead of a 4K UHD release, and each screening will feature a sneak peek of the upcoming sequel “Doctor Sleep” which opens early November.
