Universal Pictures has announced a July 13th 2018 release date for the action tentpole film “Skyscraper” starring Dwayne Johnson.
The project, which also hails from Legendary Pictures, re-teams Johnson with his “Central Intelligence” director Rawson Marshall Thurber who also wrote the film.
Sounding like a modern spin on “The Towering Inferno,” the story is set on the world’s largest skyscraper which is on fire – an inferno that reaches a mile into the sky.
Johnson plays a disabled US War Vet and former FBI Hostage Rescue Team leader whose wife and kids are trapped on the top floor.
Filming begins in August in China. The release date has the film opening opposite “Conjuring 2” spin-off “The Nun” and between “Ant-Man and the Wasp” the week before and “Alita: Battle Angel” the week after.
