“Zootopia” Helmers To Direct “Encanto”

“Zootopia” filmmakers Byron Howard and Jared Bush are reportedly setting up the new Brazil-set animated feature “Encanto” at Disney Pictures.

Award-winning composer and actor Lin-Manuel Miranda has reportedly signed on to write the songs for the film which follows the story of a young girl in Brazil who belongs to a family who has magical powers.

However, the only problem is she’s the only one in the family who doesn’t possess those incredible gifts. “Encanto,” Portugese for ‘charm’, would mark the seventh animated Disney film to have a woman of color as its lead.

Charise Castro Smith, Howard, and Bush will co-write the script, Bush also wrote Disney’s “Moana” with Miranda working on the songs for that. Clark Spencer and Yvett Merino Flores are producing.
