Zoe Kravitz (“Big Little Lies,” “Fantastic Beasts”) has reportedly been cast as Selina Kyle/Catwoman in Matt Reeves’ “The Batman” at Warner Bros. Pictures. The Wrap broke the story, but further specifics are under wraps.
Robert Pattinson plays Bruce Wayne/The Batman in the film which is said to have more of a noir detective tone than previous incarnations of the character. The project is NOT an origin story, but will be set in Batman’s early days.
Rumors have suggested it will follow a “The Long Halloween” style story with a murder mystery involving multiple villain appearances with Catwoman being one of several in the film. Others like The Penguin, The Riddler and The Mad Hatter have all been rumoured.
Kravitz reportedly beat out the likes of Ana de Armas, Ella Balinska and Eiza Gonzalez for the part. Catwoman is cat burglar whose weapon of choice is a whip and has been played by numerous actresses over the years, arguably the most famous being Michelle Pfeiffer’s acclaimed turn in the role in 1992’s “Batman Returns”.
Filming is expected to begin around either year’s end or very early 2020 to meet the film’s planned June 2021 release.
