Zimmer On “Dune: Messiah,” Twins Cast

Warner Bros. Pictures

Filmmaker Denis Villeneuve is rapidly gearing up to shoot the third “Dune” film “Dune: Messiah” in the back half of this year.

Appearing at the world premiere of the “F1” movie this week, legendary composer Hans Zimmer has confirmed he’s returning for the new film and was asked what the status of the movie was by Variety.

He says: “I just spoke with Denis. We’ve got something. We’re on our way, but there’s a lot of desert in front of us.”

The comments come as Nexus Point News is reporting today, and Deadline has subsequently confirmed, that Nakoa-Wolf Momoa and Ida Brooke are set to portray the twins Leto II and Ghanima respectively in the movie.

That would signal a potential big change from the book. The characters are physically only newborns in the novel – albeit with the minds of adults. The site claims the film will introduce them as teens via a time jump, that would suggest incorporating elements of the third novel “Children of Dune”.

Another possibility would be something smaller and more akin to Anya Taylor Joy’s cameo in “Dune: Part Two” – namely the pair appearing in a vision or dream.

Production on the new film is tipped to begin as early as next month ahead of a release in December 2026. Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem and Jason Momoa are expected back and will be joined by Robert Pattinson.
