Zendaya To Play Ronnie Spector In Biopic

Emmy-winner Zendaya is attached to play singer Ronnie Spector in a biopic for A24 and New Regency who previously teamed on Robert Eggers’ “The Lighthouse”.

Early talks are underway with Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Jackie Sibblies Drury to write the script based on Vince Waldron’s book “Be My Baby” and deals have just been closed for Spector’s life rights and book’s screen rights

Spector grew up in Spanish Harlem and started the girl group The Ronettes with her older sister Estelle Bennett and their cousin Nedra Talley. They were signed by famously volatile record producer Phil Spector and had their breakthrough hit “Be My Baby”.

She later married Spector and then smartly fought for the rights to her music in the subsequent divorce. Eventually she was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Zendaya and Marc Platt will produce while Jonathan Greenfield and Ronnie Spector will executive produce.
