“Atlanta” and “Deadpool 2” actress Zazie Beetz is being eyed to reprise her role of Sophie Dumond from 2019’s “Joker” for the upcoming sequel “Joker: Folie a Deux”.
Beetz starred in the first film as a single mother and the neighbor of Joaquin Phoenix’s Arthur Fleck. The film depicted Arthur’s romantic relationship with Sophie as being a delusion from his imagination. Upon realising the truth, he exits her apartment and her actual fate is left ambiguous.
Thus the sequel could see Beetz either reprising her role as the real Sophie, or appearing as a fantasy creation in Arthur’s mind. Todd Phillips returns to direct and co-wrote the script with Scott Silver.
Beetz would join Phoenix and Lady Gaga, who is reportedly playing Harley Quinn. The film is targeting an October 4th 2024 release.
