We’re about to get a double dose of Zack Snyder in the next few months. On top of the ‘Snyder Cut’ of 2017’s “Justice League” on HBO Max on March 18th, the director’s return to the zombie genre (which he launched his career on with 2004’s “Dawn of the Dead” remake) has now finally set a release date.
Netflix has announced a May 21st premiere date for Snyder’s $80 million or so budgeted action thriller “Army of the Dead” which begins in the wake of a zombie outbreak in Las Vegas. A group of mercenaries take the ultimate gamble, venturing into the quarantine zone to pull off the greatest heist ever attempted.
Dave Bautista, Ella Purnell, Omari Hardwick, Ana De La Reguera, Theo Rossi, Matthias Schweighofer, Nora Arnezeder, Hiroyuki Sanada, Garret Dillahunt, Tig Notaro, Raul Castillo, Huma Qureshi, Samantha Win, Richard Cetrone and Michael Cassidy all star in the project which Snyder dubs a “balls-to-the-wall zombie heist movie”.
In addition, the streamer has released the film’s official poster and announced that the first trailer will arrive this coming Thursday. Netflix is betting big on the property with both a prequel film and an anime series spin-off already in the works.
