As excitement rises for the second season of “Yellowjackets” which is going to air later this month, those involved have started talking up where the future of the series could go.
The part survival epic, psychological horror story, and coming-of-age drama series follows a team of New Jersey high school girl soccer players who become the unlucky survivors of a plane crash deep in the remote Canadian northern wilderness in 1996.
The series chronicles their attempts to stay alive and their descent from a complicated but thriving team to savage clans, while also tracking the lives they’ve attempted to piece back together nearly 25 years later.
In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, co-creators Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson talk about their story arc for the show with Lyle confirming:
“The original plan was about five seasons, and we feel like we’re still on track for that. I think that there are shows that can go forever, but I think that when you’re telling such a deeply serialized story and it’s about these characters’ lives, you want to reach a satisfying conclusion and not just drag things out forever. This isn’t really one of those setup shows where it can go anywhere.”
The first season debuted to universal acclaim, seven Emmy nominations, and an average of more than five million weekly viewers across platforms – the second-most streamed series in Showtime history.
Melanie Lynskey, Christina Ricci, Tawny Cypress, Juliette Lewis, Lauren Ambrose, Simone Kessell, Sophie Nelisse, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Sophie Thatcher, Samantha Hanratty, Courtney Eaton, Liv Hewson, Steven Krueger, Warren Kole and Kevin Alves star.
Season two will kick off March 26th on Showtime with an on demand version available for all Showtime subscribers from March 24th.
