Showtime’s Emmy-nominated, critically acclaimed hit drama “Yellowjackets” returned on Sunday night and was a smash hit for the premium cabler.
The second season premieres pulled in nearly two million viewers across platforms. That makes it the best second season premiere for the network in over ten years and more than double the series premiere audience in November 2021.
The episode broke the record on streaming and on-demand platforms previously set by “Dexter: New Blood,” it was up over 40% from the first season finale, and was the top season debut ever for Showtime on streaming and on-demand platforms
Chris McCarthy, President/CEO, Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios & Paramount Media Networks says in a statement:
“YELLOWJACKETS broke records as the most streamed SHOWTIME debut ever thanks to Ashley, Bart, Jonathan and our extraordinary ensemble cast who brought season two to even greater heights. By tapping into our proven strategy of promoting series across our full portfolio of brands at Paramount Media Networks, we successfully broadened the reach and brought new viewers into this incredible series that deftly combines psychological horror, dark comedy and coming-of-age drama.”
The series follows a group of high school girls stranded in the wilderness after their plane crashes on the way to a soccer game. The narrative jumps between their harrowing experience in the wilderness and their present-day lives decades later with secrets that have long been held onto.
In the second season, two months have passed since Shauna gave Jackie the cold shoulder – to disastrous results. In the face of their deepening hunger and fear, the tension among the Yellowjackets has only grown worse.
Winter is intensifying by the day, and the survivor’s psyches are deteriorating just as fast. As they confront the horrible truth of what survival entails, the real nightmare for each of them will be to figure out what they are willing to sacrifice to stay alive.
Juliette Lewis, Christina Ricci, Melanie Lynskey, Ella Purnell, Steven Krueger, Warren Kole, Tawny Cypress, Simone Kessell, Lauren Ambrose, Grace Van Patten, Lucy Taylor and Elijah Wood star.
