Yasmin Finney Is ‘Rose’ In “Doctor Who”

Yasmin Finney Is Rose In Doctor Who

Yasmin Finney, a young actress on Netflix’s current breakout hit “Heartstopper,” has scored the key role of Rose Tyler in the upcoming “Doctor Who” 60th anniversary special.

Billie Piper played the role of Rose Tyler throughout Christopher Eccleston and David Tennant’s runs on “Doctor Who,” and returned briefly for the 50th anniversary special.

We know Tennant and Catherine Tate are returning for the new 60th special alongside Ncuti Gatwa as the new incarnation of The Doctor. But the casting of Finney specifically in the Rose role has raised obvious questions, and new showrunner Russell T. Davies is well aware and enjoying the confusion. He says in a statement:

“Life on Doctor Who gets brighter and wilder, how can there be another Rose? You’ll find out in 2023, but it’s an absolute joy to welcome Yasmin to the Doctor Who set. We all fell in love with her in Heartstopper, one of those shows which changes the world – and now Yasmin can change the Whoniverse!”

It’s not clear if Finney will be on screen just for the anniversary special or if she will be the new companion. The 60th anniversary special will air sometime next year.
