Yann Demange To Direct Marvel’s “Blade”

20th Century Studios

Yann Demange has been brought on board to direct “Blade” for Marvel Studios.

The helmer directed such films as the acclaimed Jack O’Connell thriller “’71,” the Matthew McConaughey-led “White Boy Rick,” and the pilot for HBO’s “Lovecraft Country”.

In addition, Emmy-nominated scribe Michael Starrbury (“When They See Us”) has been hired to pen a brand new script for the feature, which still has Mahershala Ali attached to star as the Daywalker. Ali was reportedly personally involved in selecting the new writer.

The new intent is to make the film dark and gritty in tone, making it amongst the edgier MCU fare and potentially more in line with the fondly remembered Wesley Snipes films.

The new creative team puts the project back on track after losing the film’s original director, Bassam Tariq, in September over creative differences right before filming was to begin this month in Atlanta.

Filming will now begin in Atlanta in 2023, with the September 6th 2024 release date still on track for now.
