Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Skip E3 2023?

Organisers of this coming June’s E3 event in Los Angeles, the first physical E3 event in four years, are hoping it will mark a triumphant return for the once legendary trade show.

That outlook got a little less likely today according to a new report at IGN which claims to have heard from multiple knowledgeable sources that all three of the majors – Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo – won’t be part of E3 2023 or have a presence on the showfloor.

The news comes on the heels of Xbox’s announcement last week that it will be returning to Los Angeles for its annual summer showcase but declined to confirm if it would be part of the show itself.

Xbox CEO Phil Spencer told the outlet last week they will be timing their Summer showcase with E3 at a moment “convenient for press and even consumers” at the event – suggesting even if Microsoft isn’t at the event itself, it will showcase something around the same time.

A decision not to have a formal presence on the showfloor is a surprise as Microsoft has been the most supportive of the event in the past few years and has several major releases to promote in 2023. It’s currently unclear whether Nintendo and Sony will time a showcase with the event.

E3 2023 will be held from June 13th-16th with the last two being E3 Gamer Days open to the public. ReedPop, who organises PAX and the likes of Star Wars Celebration and New York Comic Con, is handling the event.
