Xbox Console Sales Slide After Price Hike

Microsoft

Microsoft has announced that sales of its Xbox consoles were down a whopping 29% in the July-September quarter, the company’s fiscal first quarter of 2026.

That follows Xbox console sales figures dropping 22% in the prior quarter. At the same time, content and services revenue, at $5.5 billion for the quarter, was up by 1%.

The quarter was sandwiched between a pair of Xbox console price hikes – one in May and one in October. The infamous Game Pass price hike, which saw the company’s ‘Ultimate Plan’ increase in price by 50%, was announced October 1st.

The impact of those hikes won’t be discovered until early next year, the same goes for the recent Xbox ROG Ally handhelds, which were released October 16th.

Xbox-related topics have been trending for much of the past week following the recent “Halo” remaster announcement, which marks the first time “Halo,” the signature game franchise of Xbox, has appeared on a PlayStation console and the last of Xbox’s ‘big three’ franchises to make the jump.

Xbox fans have been riled up over the topic and the brand. The same goes for comments from Xbox exec Sarah Bond that the next Xbox console is going to be much more of a pre-built PC capable of playing both Xbox titles and PC titles from Steam and other places. That is expected to boast an eye watering price (ie. probably around $1200+ U.S. dollars) to match.
