“X-Men” Targets May 2028 Release?

20th Century Studios

Marvel Studios is reportedly targeting a May 5th 2028 release for its new live-action “X-Men” film.

That’s the word according to The Hot Mic’s Jeff Sneider, who suggested that’s the date being targeted and will also mark the 20th anniversary of the MCU (“Iron Man” opened May 2008).

It will mark the first Marvel film post-“Avengers: Secret Wars” opening in December 2027. That film will essentially close out the Multiverse Saga, whereas “X-Men” will launch the next saga which is expected to be the ‘Mutant Saga’.

“Thunderbolts” director Jake Schreier directs the film as his next project with a script being written by Michael Lesslie (“The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes”).

No cast has been announced yet, but rumours have all been suggesting Marvel is going young with the actors being sought in their teens and twenties.

Production on the film isn’t expected to get underway until the back half of 2026 at the earliest.
