The professional-wrestling WWE Network SVOD service will soon cease to exist.
The niche standalone streamer, which averaged 1.6 million monthly paid subscribers last year, is set to be folded into NBCUniversal’s Peacock SVOD service on March 18th as part of a multiyear deal.
The WWE Network programming will become part of Peacock’s two ‘Premium’ tiers – one with ads at $4.99 per month, and one without at $9.99.
With it comes more than 17,000 hours of new, original and library content in both an on-demand and 24/7-programmed channel to join the more than 47,000 hours of programming that’s currently a part of Peacock.
Membership will include all pay-per-view events, including “WrestleMania,” with the “Fastlane” event on March 21st serving as the kick-off.
This comes hot on the heels of this weekend’s news that NBCUniversal is winding down its sports cable outlet NBCSN by the end of the year with live telecasts of sports events like NASCAR races and NHL hockey to migrate to new homes at USA Network and at Peacock.
Peacock has passed 26 million sign-ups (though plenty are not paid accounts). Comcast has projected Peacock will have up to 35 million subscribers by the end of 2024.
