The President’s Day holiday weekend is about to kick off, and with it come four new releases this week – though only one of them is looking set to hit big going by projections ahead of this weekend.
Emerald Fennell’s new $80 million-budgeted take on “Wuthering Heights,” starring Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi, is on track for an opening between $40-50 million domestically and a further $30 million overseas for a global start of $70-80 million.
Even with soft critical reviews, demand is high for the title which will get a Valentine’s Day boost despite being a film inspired by one of the most famous toxic relationships in all of literature.
Sony Animation’s basketball film “Goat” has scored fairly good reviews and is looking to come in second with around $20 million for the four-day holiday.
Third will be the Chris Hemsworth and Halle Berry-led “Crime 101” which is tracking for a disappointing $15 million domestic debut over four days. Reviews are quite positive overall, even if most of them are ‘like not love’ style assessments.
Gore Verbinski’s “Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die” has the best reviews of the four, but its relatively limited release through a smaller distributor means it will only have a sub-$10 million start.
