Writer’s & AMPTP To Meet Again Soon

After more than three months of not talking with each other, the Writers Guild of America and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers are now at least back at it.

According to the trades, negotiators from both sides met again on Friday afternoon and have held talks each of the last four days. In addition, the sides plan to “continue to exchange proposals” and will meet again next week.

Top executives from the studios reportedly held a conference call earlier on Friday to discuss next steps, but so far has reportedly resisted making further concessions.

Both sides remain separated on major issues, according to sources for Variety, as the strike hits the 110-day mark. The WGA’s negotiating committee issued a statement to members Friday evening and said:

“Thank you for the many messages of support and solidarity as we talk with the AMPTP. As always, be skeptical of rumors from third parties, knowing that the Guild will communicate when we think there is something of significance to report.”

The WGA strike began on May 2nd and was joined by the SAG-AFTRA strike on July 14th – strikes that have shut down film and TV production across the globe and have already impacted the release calendar.

SAG-AFTRA’s Los Angeles Local and the Writers Guild of America have also announced they plan to hold a ‘National Day of Solidarity’ rally on Tuesday outside Disney Studios.
