Wright Didn’t Recognise Farrell On “Batman”

Didn’t recognise Colin Farrell in “The Batman” trailer? The make-up and costuming to add a bunch of weight and completely change Farrell’s look was so effective it fooled his co-stars.

Filming kicks off again in about two weeks on the Matt Reeves-directed feature which was only about 25-30% of the way through its shoot when the COVID-19 pandemic shut it down. The remainder will now be shot over the rest of the year starting from early September.

Speaking on The Jess Cagle Show on SiriusXM (via The Playlist) , actor Jeffrey Wright was asked about “The Batman” in the wake of the new trailer. Wright plays Jim Gordon in the film and confirmed Farrell’s make-up fooled both him and others on set:

“Talk about artists, man. I’ve worked with that makeup artist before and it’s just incredible. Colin walked onto set one day, and I walked right past him [laughs]. I was like, ‘Ok, hey dude, what’s happening, where’s Colin are we going to shoot?’ It was, it’s pretty remarkable.”

Wright says a big part of the film he’s excited about is that it will showcase the character’s detective skills and how he works with and interacts with the police at a crime scene:

“We were really stoked about what we were doing. First of all, the script. When I read the script I said to myself, ‘Yeah this is on it’…You go back to the original [‘Batman’ comics]l, it’s DC, it’s ‘Detective Comics’ and the script is really beholden to that, beholden to this idea that Batman is the world’s greatest detective. I think as Gary Oldman once described, Gordon is something of a Watson to him. The script honors that, and it also set a tone that was very clear, and a tone that has been captured in that trailer.”

“The Batman” is due to hit cinemas on October 1st.
