“Wonder Woman 3” & “Amazons” On Hold

While many blockbuster films rush to meet their deadline, that’s not the case with Patty Jenkins’ “Wonder Woman 1984”.

Jenkins shot the feature throughout the second half of 2018 and so was able to get the film pretty much completed before the pandemic hit. She’s even previously discussed having the luxury of time to go back and tweak some things – something few directors rarely get to do.

Jenkins has also previously talked about beginning development of both a third film in the series, and a potential spinoff movie about the Amazons. Now though, speaking to Total Film magazine, Jenkins explains that she’s had to stop early work on both those films as current global events will have an impact on the story she’s writing:

“I’ve really hit the pause button. Because the truth is, where that plotline was coming from was our state of being six months ago. And so I want to make sure that I’m totally absorbing whatever the result of this pandemic is.

We’re not starting to work on that movie [Wonder Woman 3] right away. I’m hoping to do this Amazon movie before we do the third Wonder Woman. And I may not do either of them. You never know what will happen in this world, you know? But yes, I think the plotline will stay very similar, probably. But I want to make sure it’s influenced by all of this.”

“Wonder Woman 1984” has seen itself delayed from June 5th to August 14th to October 2nd at present. Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Kristen Wiig, Pedro Pascal and Natasha Rothwell star in the film.
