Warner Bros. Pictures has shuffled around its release schedule, the biggest change being the high profile “Wonder Woman 1984″ has now been delayed two months – from June 5th to August 14th.
Toby Emmerich, Warner Bros. Pictures Group chairman, said in a statement: “When we greenlit ‘Wonder Woman 1984,’ it was with every intention to be viewed on the big screen and are excited to announce that Warner Bros. Pictures will be bringing the film to theatres on August 14th. We hope the world will be in a safer and healthier place by then.”
The studio has also indefinitely pulled three other films – the animated feature “Scoob” which was to launch May 15th, the adaptation of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s musical “In the Heights” which would’ve opened June 26th, and the James Wan-directed “Malignant” which is giving up its old release slot for “Wonder Woman 1984”.
The delays were inevitable as multiplexes across the country remain closed to help halt the spread of the coronavirus. This however marks the first real confirmation from studios that they expect cinemas will remain dark around much of the world through June.
