Winterbottom Helming Boris Johnson Series

“The Trip” and “24 Hour Party People” helmer Michael Winterbottom is set to direct an event series depicting the U.K.’s response to the coronavirus crisis under Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

The series will heavily focus on Johnson from his appointment as PM to the discovery of the first cases of COVID-19 to Johnson being admitted to intensive care in late March and spending more than a week in hospital while he saw the arrival of his new son.

Britain meanwhile saw its death toll steadily rise to become the second highest, per capita, in the world. Currently, the U.K.’s death toll stands at 43,230 from a population of 67 million.

The Sunday Times political editor Tim Shipman will serve as a consultant for the project which hails from “True Detective” and “Outlaw King” executive producer Richard Brown’s Passenger and Winterbottom’s Revolution Films label. The series will be co-written by Winterbottom.
