“Black Panther” and “Us” star Winston Duke will play famed political activist and Black nationalism figure Marcus Garvey in “Marked Man” for Amazon Studios.
Set in the 1920s, the story follows a young black man who joins the FBI and then infiltrates Garvey’s UNIA organization, testing his loyalty to both race and country as he grows weary of both his and FBI director J. Edgar Hoover’s actions.
Kwame Kwei-Armah, who is also writing Spike Lee’s upcoming Viagra musical film, penned the script which was partly inspired by the Colin Grant biography “Negro with a Hat”.
Jesse Williams and DeWanda Wise are in talks to co-star while Andrew Dosunmu (“Restless City,” “Where Is Kyra?”) will direct.
