Willem Dafoe is set to join the cast of the “Beetlejuice” sequel at Warner Bros. Pictures. The project begins production this week.
The project is continuing to finalise its cast members ahead of filming. Jenna Ortega will lead the cast, with Michael Keaton reprising his role as the obnoxious bio-exorcist ‘ghost with the most’.
Winona Ryder is also back as Ortega’s mother, Catherine O’Hara is returning as Ortega’s grandmother, Monica Bellucci is onboard as Beetlejuice’s wife, and Justin Theroux also has a role.
Story details are under wraps, but it is said Dafoe is playing a member of law enforcement officer for those in the afterlife. Tim Burton returns to the director’s chair for the film, which will be released September 6th 2024.
“Wednesday” and “Smallville” creators Al Gough and Miles Millar wrote the screenplay with Burton and Brad Pitt’s Plan B producing. The original 1988 film, which also starred the likes of Geena Davis, Alec Baldwin and Jeffrey Jones, grossed $80 million from a $15 million budget.
Dafoe most recently was seen in “Spider-Man: No Way Home” and “The Northman”. He has Wes Anderson’s “Asteroid City” and Yorgos Lanthimos’ “Poor Things” coming up, and will re-team with Robert Eggers on his “Nosferatu” remake.
