A month after filmmaker Michael Bay exited the Will Smith-led action thriller “Fast and Loose” at Netflix, rising filmmaker John Swab (“King Ivory,” “Candy Land”) has reportedly landed the directing gig.
In early August it was reported that Bay and Smith were unable to bridge creative differences on the project. Tone appeared to be the issue with Bay wanting it to be more an action film and Smith more a comedy.
Smith plays a man who wakes up in Tijuana with no memories. As he pieces together his past, he learns he’s been living two lives: one as a crime kingpin and the other as an undercover CIA agent.
Meetings were had with several candidates before landing on Swab, who blew away studio execs and Smith.
Jon Hoeber, Erich Hoeber, Chris Bremner and Eric Pearson penned the script for the film, which is still aiming to shoot this Fall. Smith, Jerry Bruckheimer, Chad Oman, Adam Fishbach, David Leitch and Kelly McCormick are slated to produce.
Bay meanwhile has moved on to other projects such as his film adaptation of the classic arcade game “OutRun” and a new iteration of the “Transformers” franchise.
