NBC has pulled the Kal Penn-led new comedy series “Sunnyside” from its Thursday night airing slot. In its place, the network has moved up the final-season premiere of “Will & Grace”.
Penn stars in the series as a disgraced New York City councilman who is hired by a group of people studying to become American citizens. “Sunnyside,” has underperformed on air, drawing the smallest ratings of any first-year show on the Big Four networks thus far this season. In Live+7, the show has averaged an audience of 2.3 million per episode.
After one more airing this Thursday, the network burn off the remainder of the show’s run on NBC.com, the NBC app and other digital platforms. Unusually, to accomodate this, one additional episode has been ordered in order to increase the series’ total episodes for the season to eleven.
“Will & Grace” will take over the 9:30 p.m. Thursday time period starting October 24th rather than the midseason start it had been scheduled for.
