Will Ferrell, Rian Johnson Plan Golf Comedy

Apple TV+

Gloria Sanchez Productions (“Dead to Me”) and T-Street (“Poker Face”) are teaming up to develop a comedy TV series that would serve as a Will Ferrell starring vehicle that will be produced by “Glass Onion” director Rian Johnson.

The series reportedly revolves around a professional golfer who becomes the face of a controversial new league competing with the PGA. The synopsis has already drawn parallels to the controversial LIV Golf – the Saudi Arabia-backed professional golf tour which launched last year.

The series is said to have a similar tone to Ferrell’s sporting comedies like “Talladega Nights” and “Blades of Glory,” and would mark the first comedy series centered on Ferrell.

Following his rise to fame on SNL, Ferrell’s only TV work has been the Apple TV+ dark comedy-drama limited series “The Shrink Next Door” alongside Paul Rudd.

Ferrell, Johnson, Jessica Elbaum and Nena Rodrigue would executive produce. Despite his involvement, Johnson will not be writing or directing the series.

Ferrell is reportedly an avid golf player who has hosted fundraising golf events. He’ll soon be seen alongside Reese Witherspoon in Amazon’s wedding comedy movie “You’re Cordially Invited”.
