A new listing on the Regal site indicates that LAIKA’s upcoming Travis Knight-directed stop motion animated feature “Wildwood” will clock in at 139 minutes.
That makes it the second-longest English-language animated film ever behind only “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” at 140 minutes.
The film is based on Colin Meloy’s celebrated book series, with the first book being over 500 pages, so the length makes sense considering the source material. Chris Butler (“ParaNorman”) penned the adaptation.
The Portland-set story follows Prue McKeel who, along with her best friend Curtis, enters a hidden and enchanted forest cultivated by original settlers known as the
impassable wilderness.
The woods want to keep people away from whatever secrets are hiding inside, including her baby brother Mac, who has been taken by a murder of crows and a mysterious woman named Alexandra into the forest’s depths.
Carey Mulligan, Mahershala Ali, Peyton Elizabeth Lee, Jacob Tremblay, Awkwafina, Angela Bassett, Jake Johnson, Charlie Day, Amanda Stenberg, Jemaine Clement, Maya Erskine, Tantoo Cardinal, Tom Waits and Richard E. Grant lend their voices to the project.
“Wildwood” is set for release in cinemas on October 23rd.
